Taking the accusations of negligence to the next level, a CBI probe has been ordered to investigate whether the High court judge’s mother died because of negligence.
In July this year, the 84-year-old mother of a HC judge was rushed to PGI cardiac centre, where she passed away within few hours.
Not satisfied with the timely treatment of the patient, the family alleged that the cause of the death was the absence of senior doctors. The family had refused for postmortem
On the basis of the complaint, a committee was constituted to look into the matter. The PGI committee didn’t find any lapses in the care. Not satisfied with the committee’s report, the family demanded for an external medical board. A medical board comprising doctors from both PGI and AIIMS was formed to probe the matter.
“The board in it’s report mentioned the cause of death as cardiac arrest, with no negligence”.
Still unsatisfied, a complaint was also sent to the Union ministry of health and family welfare and the PMO, which then ordered the CBI to investigate the matter.
“All files pertaining to the patient are being scrutinized and doctors will be questioned soon” said an official.
It has created a sense of demotivation among the doctors, who feel that despite seeing over 8000 OPD every day, they are being held guilty of negligence.
