Keeping a patient in wait while being away from the hospital, costed a Cardiologist lots of trouble.
A Jalandhar based Cardiologist has been booked under Sec 304 (Medical negligence)
for the death of a patient in 2017.
The patient’s kin has accused the Doctor of delaying his father’s treatment which led to his death.
A four member medical board was constituted after the deceased kin filed a complaint.
According to the complaint, the patient was brought to the hospital after having a Heart attack but on reaching the hospital it was found that the Cardiologist was not available.
The Board mentioned in its report that the relatives of the patient were informed that the Cardiologist Dr Garg is not in the town and the “treatment will be available shortly”.
The report said that the crucial 90 minutes were lost while waiting for the doctor. “While Dr Garg could not reach the hospital in 90minutes, a crucial time of MI treatment was lost. Then on the request of the relatives, the patient was shifted to another hospital where he was declared brought dead. This delay in treatment appears to be multifactorial”.
The board held that among many factors, “non-availability of the doctor” was also one of the factor for the mismanaged treatment.
An FIR of Medical Negligence has been registered after taking the opinion of the District Attorney.
Recently, negligence was also filed against a doctor couple for giving treatment while in absence at the hospital. Doctors must pay more attention on how to handle patients while they are away.
