The happiness of becoming a new parent soon gives way to the distortion of their sleep cycle.
While it is recommended for adults to sleep for 7-9 hours every day, such things lose their significance when you are a new parent. A short period of distortion can still be adjusted but if you are told that it will take around 6years to get back to the normal routine, be assured many will feel shocked.
A new research conducted revealed that parents have poor sleep quality for close to 6 years after the birth of their child.
The researchers collected data of 4,659 parents from the year 2008 to 2015, where parents were asked to rate their sleep satisfaction.
On an average, mothers slept one hours less for the first three months, while dads sleep better than their wives, losing only 15 minutes of sleep every night. However, even in the 6th year, most mothers slept 20 minutes less than their desired amount and fathers still fail to get their 15 minutes of lost sleep.
While babies may not cry and continue to wake up for nighttime feeds after the first year, parents may have disturbed sleep because of their health or nightmares.
