Britain has a historical dependence on India for doctors and health professionals, since the founding of National Health Services (NHS) in 1948.
Known for their comparatively better clinical and language skills, they are often lauded for their contribution to Britain.
UK hospitals have failed to meet the national target of 95% of patients seen to within a four hour waiting time and currently their Emergency services are under great stress.
There are 25,282 doctors trained in India, now practicing in the UK but the latest figures from the General Medical Council show a steep decline in the number of doctors registered during 2004-2016.
Britain’s dependence on India for doctors and health professionals has increased after Brexit. Earlier EU-trained doctors used to migrate to UK as there was no restriction on the migration under European Union but those doctors had poor English knowledge, which many times led to wrong diagnosis. Skill quality was also an issue. But after Brexit, now EU doctors can be barred and thus there is more need of trained health professionals in UK from other countries.
To meet thousands of vacancies, NHS(National Health Service) look more towards India – as Indian doctors are acknowledged for better clinical and language skills.
To expedite the same they even launched a scheme for training and recruitment of Indian doctors.
