Do I Need To Change My Diet After Gallbladder Surgery


After Removal of Gallbladder no special diet is required as it has been proved that gallbladder just act as bile storage other than that it has no major role in digestion; Patient is allowed liquids orally six hours after surgery and if no vomitting can take soft diet and normal diet from next day; After surgery a low fat diet is advised for next 5-6 weeks but can resume normal diet after that
Some patient suffer a lot of bloating, painful gas and diarrhoea after surgery but most do not as bile which now flow freely act as laxative; For these patients certain food items should be avoided such as
Dairy products especially whole milk, butter, full fat-yogurt
Processed food containing a lot of sugar and fat such as cookies, cake, white bread
Meat that is high in fat content such as beef, red meat, pork
