Ovulation is the release of egg from the ovaries.
Gynaecologist Dr Jacques Donnez spotted it in progress during
a hysterectomy. It was a chance sighting and one of the most clear images of
the process.
According to him the process of ovulation almost took 15
minutes to complete, though some theories had suggested an
"explosive" release for the egg.
