107-year-old Gurcharan Singh Sandhu underwent a successful hip replacement surgery and is now all fit and healthy.
He became the oldest man to undergo this surgery. Doctors claim it to be the first hip replacement surgery at the age of 107 across the world.
He had a fall in his bathroom and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors told him that he had a fracture on the left side of his hip.
When he reached hospital and told his age, the doctors were shocked seeing his fitness. His sugar level was normal, had no diabetes or hypertension and was not on any type of medication. "I do not want to be on bed. I am ready for the surgery," he told the doctors.
Seeing his fitness, doctors operated on him and the surgery took around 40 minutes. Doctors informed that usually at this age bones weaken but Gurcharan's bones were still strong. The doctors also said, "In case of weak bones, we use cemented implants, which has a risk of cardiac arrest. But as he was fit, we decided to give him an uncemented implant."
He underwent surgery on Saturday and stood fit on Monday. Born on March 31, 1913, he is probably the oldest person to undergo the Hip replacement operation. The doctors are now planning to send this achievement for Guinnes Book of World Records.
